Work In Progress

Oil On Canvas

Surf Beachscape is a work in progress of an oil on canvas. I started this original painting with a yellow underpainting. For more information on underpainting view this link from a previous blogpost “What is an Underpainting” post from June 20th.

Below is the first stage of the beachscape painting with the yellow underpainting. The vertical format is extreme with the canvas 10 inches wide and 30 inches long. Use the underpainting to view the composition.

The underpainting I used here is acrylic thinned with water. Use water to control the values or lightness or darkness of the paint. Stepping back and viewing the painting from a distance to see how it is progressing.

Tall, narrow canvas for a slice view of the surf.
