This is the line drawing for a commission artwork I’m starting on a wood table top. This first step works out the composition for the painting. The customer gave me a photograph of a beach scene that they wanted hand painted on a table top. I did the line drawing above of the beach and I added the adirondack chairs to add to the composition in the painting.  This drawing is in proportion to the finished painting that will be on the wood table top.  I’m pleased with this sketch so my next step is to add value to the sketch. I plan on painting a bright sunny day or afternoon but it is important to plan the values in the painting before I go any further.
