My newest oil painting is a colorful sunset on the marsh. This painting features mauve and violet clouds over a setting sun. The sky is two-thirds of this almost square canvas. The actual size of this sunset oil painting is 26″x 23″ and purchase includes a pretty gold wood picture frame.

“Sunset on the Marsh” oil painting by artist P.J. Cook

This landscape oil painting is the latest in a series of colorful scenes from the shoreline. The actual location of this painting is near the mouth of the Connecticut River in Old Lyme, CT. The water reflects the pretty colors of this sunset along with the marsh grass. This sunset painting reminds me of another sky painting I did from this area except it was a moonlight scene. The Black Hall Moon is a 48 inch square oil painting that is shown here below. The moon was behind the clouds as it illuminated the marsh on the Black Hall River. This large moonlight painting was sold and resides in a house that overlooks North Cove in Old Saybrook, just across the river from Old Lyme.

Old Lyme

Old Lyme is a picturesque small town with borders on Long Island Sound to the south and the Connecticut River to the west. There are many things to see in Old Lyme including the Florence Griswold Museum. If you get the chance to visit the lower Connecticut River Valley be sure to stop and stay a while in Old Lyme.
