This is a recent watercolor painting I did of a wicker chair on a porch. The rich luminous color was acheived by glazing many layers of paint over previous dry layers.
Wicker Chair Technique
Each layer of paint is applied on wet paper after the previous layer of paint has dried. Starting with the lightest color yellow and working toward pinks and finishing with various shades of blue. Before applying the paint the paper is wet thoroughly, so it is wet on wet style of painting. After the desired color and value is acheived the finishing details are done. The details of the window, siding and the wood floor are done with dry brush for texture. Any shadows are painted on directly with a flat brush.
This original watercolor is 5″ x 7″ on Arches watercolor paper.
