Just finished this oil For the Roses on canvas of flowers in a mason jar. I worked from a floral bouquet that I had bought at Whole Foods. It included the mason jar that I can use again for more floral paintings.
I wanted to have a big value contrast between the glass mason jar and the flowers. So I have white in the bottom 1/3 of the canvas and darker values in the upper 2/3 of the 12″ x 16″ canvas. It did make the white roses pop in the upper area in the painting.

I am starting another floral with white daisy’s in a bright orange glass vase. I worked quite a while cutting the daisy’s to fit in this short square vase. The morning sun lights up the flowers and I am anxious to start. Check back to read more about the next oil on canvas.
