Today I painted 2 watercolors of ocean waves, sandy beaches and sandpiper birds. These little shorebirds are always seen running back and forth with the waves. My goal was to try to make them look like they are running. It’s not as easy as it looks. The watercolor above I painted the shorebirds with a little less detail and worked on the shape of the birds.

The paper was Arches 260lb with a fairly rough surface. One thing I like about this paper is I don’t need to stretch it flat. It is heavy enough not to warp when it gets wet.

This watercolor has a bigger ocean wave and the sandpiper birds have a little more detail. Painted on the same paper as the watercolor above.

These 2 watercolors of sandpiper birds are similar but have a few differences. Which one do you prefer?
