Starting new beach scene landscape with a bicycle in the foreground. First I painted in a yellow/orange wash to view the composition. This initial wash adds value and shows the basic composition of the scene.
At this point you can easily make any adjustments to the painting. Also orange is the complement of blue( my favorite color is blue, in case you haven’t noticed) I may leave a few small areas of this orange wash peeking through and it leaves a nice little pop of color to your painting.
Check back to view this original acrylic as I continue painting, and follow me on instagram @pjcookartist.
What sort of substrate do you use for the palm tree and seashore paintings? I cannot make out whether its Cold Press or Hot Press Paper or…? Thanks in advance

For watercolor paintings I use cold pressed paper. Usually I like Arches brand because I have used it for many years and I know what to expect from it.
Sometimes I will use a rough paper if I want a lot to texture.
Thanks for asking!!
