Have you been to Harkness Park Beach in Waterford, Connecticut? It is worth a day trip for a picnic by the shoreline or a walk thru the gardens. You can tour the mansion that sits right on Long Island Sound. Or just walk the beautiful gardens and sandy beach.

On a quiet but foggy morning I visited the park as the sun was breaking through the clouds. There were a few other people searching for sea glass on the beach that morning. Fishers Island would be through the fog in the background along with the channel heading into New London, CT. After a few photos and a pencil sketch of the fog lifting that morning I decided on the scene shown below.

Harkness Park Beach, 6 x 6" oil on board, features a foggy sunrise from the beach, artist PJ Cook.
