Morning Cactus Oil On Canvas

Description

The other morning I woke up early enough to explore interesting subjects to paint. I walked around Lauderdale by the Sea with my sketchbook and camera. There was quite a bit of activity in the seaside village. From scuba divers and snorkelers to the morning walkers everyone seemed to be enjoying the bright morning.

I spotted a narrow walkway with the sunlight streaming towards me. A planter with a cactus was outside a green door and it seemed to have a spotlight directly on it. Immediately I had to paint it. After sketching the scene and taking some photos I headed home to paint the scene.

Painting alla prima or in one sitting I finished the original oil on canvas shown below.
